In this session, you will:

Homework after the Session: List office equipment, supplies and softward you need and prepare a 2-year acquisition plan; Interview 2 CSPs to discover how they manage their speaking business and create a brief summary of your findings; Define a recordkeeping and work flow system; Create a contract and other forms your business will need; Create a list of objectives for the NSA Convention.

Platform Mechanics with Patrick Donadio, CSP and Danielle Turcola

In this session, you will:

* Learn how to get early information on your audience and venue to determine equipment needs

* Know the different types of microphones and determine your preference (use equipment)

* Have a clear view of the importance of room set-up and know how you will incorporate this into your agreements

* Understand basic, fundamental set-up and stage skills

* Connect with your audience

* Explore attire and presence - including color psychology, clothing/makeup and credibility robbers

Homework after the Session: Create a pre-session questionnaire to customize your presentations; Create a diagram of room set-ups you can use to guide your clients for maximum impact; Create a 2-minute presentation of your signature story; Create an evaluation form you will use; Be able to describe the 2 best ways to bring an audience into the presentation.

* Discover the classical structure stories should take for maximum impact

* Explore ways to connect with an audience

* Learn the elements of a signature story

Homework after the Session: Create a 5-minute story that supports your topic; Start a tool kit of ideas to create audience involvement; Identify readings, workshops, and conventions that will satisfy your professional development over the next three years.

* Review promotional materials of at least 5 professional speakers and identify key characteristics of an effective kit

* Identify different sales approaches and cost-effective ways to market yourself, including electronic listings and websites

*Understand professional speakers pricing strategies

Homework after the Session: Write your defining statement; Prepare a script and letter designed to get you business; List 25 places you will contact, including contact person's name; Contact five prospects from your list and report results; Research pricing structure of 3 professional speakers; Complete a one-sheet; Take professional photo; Write one article; Update business plan; Request photos from 2 professionals you admire and are doing what you want to do; Create a list of 10 reasons why you are unique, different and valuable; Create a marketing plan for next year; List all costs for NSA, NSA Ohio (membership and events) and living expenses for a year, and divide by the number of sessions you are willing to do to determine your fee; Ask members of NSA the titles of their programs/presentations.

In this session, you will:

* Learn advantages and disadvantages of self-publishing and of working with a major publishing house.

* Learn the essentials of self-publishing.

* Select the most viable product format, topic, and target markets you can launch within 6-12 months.

* Identify obstacles that stand between you and a finished product; create strategies for overcoming roadblocks and challenges.

* Develop a plan to sell and market your products.

Homework after the Session: Add a product development section to your business plan; Outline a short and long-term rollout product development plan based on criteria of time, expertise, money and available resources.
